CEC Newsletter - July 2017
In this edition, we will cover feedback of the latest Management Board meeting as well as some news on the test method side.

TDG-L-114 - Toyota Diesel Turbocharger Compressor Deposit test proposal

The first TDG meeting took place on November 24th where the Chairman and Vice-Chairman have been nominated. The Chairman will be Michael Schulz from ISP and the Vice-Chairman Paul Decker-Brentano from Toyota. The nominations were approved by the CEC Management Board. There are 11 sponsors confirmed for this test. ISP will be the general hardware supplier. A fuel tender process will also be launched by CEC shortly. The test will be installed at the test lab in February/March 2018 and the RR should start in April 2018.

TDG-F-113 – DISI test

The fuel tender was launched and a pre-tender call took place with potential suppliers on May 30th. By the end of August the fuel supplier will be selected and the next TDG meeting will take place on September 7th.

The test is scheduled to be ready by the end of 2018.

Toyota Diesel Turbocharger Compressor Deposit test proposal

Toyota has developed a TC Deposit test that is presently proposed to CEC for finalization as a CEC test. This work has been carried out in cooperation with an independent laboratory and funded fully by Toyota up to now. After several meetings and discussions, the test method is written and the ToR have been endorsed. Some final items need to be checked and reviewed with ISP after which the TDG can be setup.

SPG on Low Soot Wear Test

Nigel Britton of Lubrizol is the Chair of this Special Project Group (SPG) and has organized the first meeting in Brussels on May 12th, 2017. There was a consensus that an engine test would be preferred and would provide the best way to evaluate wear performance; however no suitable new engines are currently being offered for inclusion into future ACEA specifications.

The possibility of a no-soot test as an alternative for a low-soot bench test was discussed and it was agreed that addition of artificial soot is not a representative option.

This test should be introduced in ACEA 2018, meaning that the test development work has to be finalized by Q3/Q4 2018.

CEC has decided to close the Surveillance Group as it becomes more and more difficult to produce elastomers for this old seal compatibility test (RE1 and RE2) and the new elastomer group SG L-112 is well in place. Labs will still be allowed to run the test but they cannot claim a CEC result. If you don’t have the full set of elastomer for L-039, then you should use CEC L-112. A note will be added in the ACEA 2012 sequences and on the CEC website to reflect this decision.

Overview of the CEC Management Board Meeting on June 6th, 2017

The latest CEC MB meeting took place on June 6th, 2017 at the CEC/Kellen offices in Brussels. The following items were decided/discussed:

Activity Report
The first edition of the Activity Report has been issued and can be accessed on the website in the group member section as well as on the public part under "presentation and papers". The report is part of efforts of the CEC MB to enhance dialogue and engagement with our stakeholders. In this first issue, we look back at the first half of 2017; update you on relevant aspects of our TDG’s, SG’s and other CEC groups.

The CEC MB hopes this Activity Report will give you a better flavor of our work and the progress we make. We realize that our stakeholders are quite diverse and therefore please let us know what you think of this Activity Report and please let us know ([email protected]) how we may further increase the added value for you personally. We hope to hear from you.

Activities of the SG's
The CEC MB has looked at developing a procedure to facilitate the interaction with the Surveillance Groups and seeking opportunities to focus the SG activities on test improvements. This has resulted in establishing performance indicators which will allow MB and SG members to monitor and appraise performance. The test life plan was updated to include those performance indicators and the latest version can be found on the extranet.

Chairmen Appointments SG's

Julien Guérin has been appointed as the new Chairman of SG-L-040 and Mike Lopez as the Deputy Chairman.

The MB has approved the nomination of Paul Ransom as the new Chairman of SG-L-109.

Philip Worboys has been appointed as the new Chairman of SG-L-112
